In March of 2002, a small group of established believers in Jesus, after much prayer, consultation, and reflection, began Berean Baptist Church. The desire of our new fellowship was to make the study and knowledge of the Scriptures our primary passion and central identifying mark. Initially we met for worship at the State College Knights of Columbus Hall, and soon thereafter moved to the Mount Nittany Middle School, where we remained until 2011.
Our first Pastor was Keith Doster, whose brief ministry was followed by extended interim pastorates of Ron Gibson and Roy Hunter. In September 2005, Berean called Rev. Gary Finn to serve as Pastor, initially serving part-time, while commuting weekends from his home in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Due to growth and ministry transition, the church relocated to the Boalsburg Fire Hall in 2011, where it remained until 2013. In July 2012, Pastor Finn and his wife, Linda, and their daughter, Kimberly, moved to State College to serve as full-time Pastor of Berean Baptist Church. With ministry needs growing, the church again relocated, to St. Joseph’s Academy, Boalsburg.
In 2020 we called Dwight Freed to be our Pastor. We now meet in the Centre Hall Fire Hall at 134 N. Witmer Ave, Centre Hall Pa. Our worship services are also Skyped at this link.
Berean Baptist Church remains committed to making the knowledge and application of the truth of the Word of God our primary passion. Our worship is blended, children’s classes are provided, and Bible studies are available during the week. Berean family members are encouraged to use their spiritual gifts to encourage and serve one another and minister to the community. In addition, evangelism, both locally and globally, is central to our vision, and world missions is vital in our outreach.
